LOS ANGELES – Hollywood stars from Barbra Streisand and Ben Stiller to Julia Louis-Dreyfus and JJ Abrams slammed NBC for scheduling a Donald Trump town hall at the same time as challenger Joe Biden’s own event.

US President and Biden will engage in simultaneous televised conversations and mourning Thursday after a head-to-head debate was ruled out in the wake of Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis.

Trump had refused to participate in a virtual debate with his opponent, prompting Biden to schedule a solo town hall for Thursday night on rival network ABC.

“We have been devastated to learn that you have chosen to air President Trump’s city hall … directly in front of Vice President Biden’s city hall,” read an open letter to NBCUniversal executives signed by more than 100 actors, writers and directors.

“By agreeing to air your city hall as a counterprogram in front of Vice President Biden’s city hall on ABC, you are allowing the president to misbehave.

The letter, signed by many famous employees and former NBC employees, insisted that they did not want to deprive Trump of airtime, but called for his city hall to be rescheduled “so that American voters can have the opportunity to see both.” .

Stiller, Abrams, Julianne Moore, Seth Rogen and Aaron Sorkin were among the signers.

NBC’s decision had already sparked backlash from the A-listers on social media, with Louis-Dreyfus, a former student of the NBC hits “Saturday Night Live” and “Seinfeld,” among whom tweeted “#NBCBlackout.” .

“NBC has now decided that after he cowardly withdrew from a debate to give Donald Trump an hour-long council in front of Joe Biden,” Streisand tweeted.

“All Trumps (sic) wants to do is win the ratings game. He’s more of a game show host than a president. “

The split-screen spectacle comes 19 days after the election, with Trump’s reelection failing.

A RealClearPolitics poll average has Biden up 9.2 points nationally and leads in several key states on the battlefield.
