New Gymkhana Subaru WRX STI listed as the ‘Wildest WRX STI of all time’ by Subaru

This black Subaru WRX STI will be the next race car fireball featured in Hoonigan’s Gymkhana video series. Subaru heralds it as the “wildest WRX STI of all time,” and we’re not going to argue with that claim. Look.

The raw carbon body looks like a real cheese grater. You could throw a whole chicken at the front fender as it passes and end up with shredded chicken. Its flame-spitting bonnet outlet exhaust will even give the bird a good char when it passes the front of the car. And no, we can’t see any flames in the photos here, but Subaru promises that it produces fire. The aero loco apparently developed in a wind tunnel. And if you haven’t already guessed, this car was designed with no restrictions at all. You are not competing in any competition, so everything was optimized for the best possible performance.

It has a custom-built boxer engine, but Subaru has not provided us with a number yet. We can guarantee you are freaking out the power, as the extra smoke photos suggest. The car also has a long-travel suspension and a “race-ready interior.”

Travis Pastrana will be behind the wheel in this 2020 Gymkhana series that promises to be even bigger and better than previous Gymkhana videos. Pastrana’s history of rally and rallycross driving should help him continue to provide the same entertainment that Ken Block provided in Subarus of the past.

“This STI is amazing!” Travis Pastrana said. “We have never had the opportunity to do this before, to build a car without restrictions. Engine, suspension, aerodynamics – everything is limitless, clean blade. It’s incredibly fast, easy to control and drift, and was perfect out of the box in testing. Gymkhana is a new challenge for me, but I want to raise the bar, and this is the car to do it. “

The car itself is a collaboration between Subaru and its partner Vermont SportsCar. It started out as a production STI, but now it’s nothing like it. We hope to learn more about the car soon; The new Gymkhana videos can’t come soon enough.
