Ironman streak intact as Tenorio adjusts two weeks after surgery

Not wanting to see his PBA record broken for most games played, the veteran shooting guard dressed and played in Barangay Geneva’s debut in the PBA Philippine Cup as the Kings beat the NLEX Road Warriors, 102-92, Sunday night in Los Angeles. Gymnasium of the University Foundation.

Tenorio played about 12 minutes (11:57) in the game that the Kings controlled most of the way as he barely showed the effects of the laparoscopic surgery performed just two weeks before entering the bubble.

He finished with a single point on 0 of 4 shots from the field and had two rebounds.

But the numbers hardly bothered him as the number that really matters remained safe and intact as Tenorio stretched his league ‘Iron Man’ record to a total of 642 games and counting.

Coach Tim Cone said the 36-year-old playmaker was adamant about playing the Road Warriors.

“He shows tremendous courage by going out and playing two weeks after surgery. That’s just him. He doesn’t want to miss a thing, ”Cone said of his longtime player.

“So I was really determined to play.”

Of course, the Geneva coaching staff made sure to regulate their playing time and not compromise their health.

“We try to keep an eye on him and look at him with an eagle eye,” added Cone, noting how rusty Tenorio has been after more than two weeks without actively playing.
