MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Sports Commission said Saturday that French Open women’s singles semi-finalist Alex Eala will receive the financial aid she was promised.
PSC CEO Guillermo Iroy said that he will personally ensure that documents are provided so that checks are delivered as quickly as possible.
That’s after the agency’s social media posted a congratulatory message on Facebook and also claimed that the PSC extended P3 million for its competitions in Europe and the United States.
The post also mentioned another P1.5 million aid for six international trips starting this year.
But Eala’s mother, Rizza Maniego Eala, vehemently denied such claims in an extensive rebuttal on her Facebook page.
Elder Eala said they have not received anything from the PSC, although the financial aid was “verbally promised”.
He said they have “two-inch-thick” documents, including receipts and boarding passes. But when they followed him, they “turned around” instead.
Iroy said he ordered PSC accounting to expedite its documents early Monday.
“Anyway, I will investigate it personally because she (Alex) still has a lot of tournaments to come, she would need funding,” Iroy told the Inquirer.
Eala reached a milestone by reaching the Final Four of the French Open. That feat paired the 15-year-old sensation with tennis legend Felix Barrientos, who reached the Wimbledon singles semifinals in 1985.
Academy Scholar Rafael Nadal is expected to compete in more and more WTA events in the coming months.
