You don’t believe it.
After falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the French Open quarterfinals, Pablo Carreño Busta shared his icy feelings about the Serbian’s actions in the match.
Djokovic entered the game with injuries to his neck and shoulder, and was treated on the upper left arm after losing the first set. Carreño Busta suggested that the move could have been a bit of skill.
“I was not surprised [by asking for a medical time-out]. It’s something good. It’s a sign that he’s losing and that I was playing well, because he always does, ”Carreño Busta told the press. “Every time the game gets complicated, he asks for medical assistance.
“It’s something he’s been doing for years. When he’s depressed, ask for the coach. I don’t know, maybe it’s the pressure or something you need to do it. But, I mean, keep playing normal, right? I dont know if is [in] real pain or [the issue is] mental. Ask him.”
Djokovic was coy about the severity of his injury.
“I definitely didn’t feel very good coming onto the court today, some things happened in the warm-up,” Djokovic said. I had some neck problems and some shoulder problems. I really don’t want to get too into it.
“I feel good, I’m still in the tournament, so I don’t want to reveal too much. As the game progressed, I felt better, I didn’t feel so much pain. “
Djokovic was facing Carreno Busta at the US Open when he hit a line on the neck with a frustrated ball hit. That remains his only loss of the season after Wednesday’s comeback.
Djokovic admitted that Carreño Busta was the best player during a “set and a half”, and called the match “very close” despite being in the last three sets.
Djokovic will now face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals, seeking to become the third male player in history to win every Grand Slam twice.
