COVID-19

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,363 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total outbreaks in the country to 331,869. To date, more than 4 million COVID-19 tests have been performed.

Of the more than 2,300 new cases, the National Capital Region (NCR) reported the most at 858.

The DOH also reported that there are 144 deaths today, bringing the death toll to 6,069.

Of the total positive cases reported since the outbreak began, the NCR or the Metro Manila area has accounted for 171,427, or 52 percent of the total.

Quezon City has reported more than 2,000 new cases in the past 14 days, the most of any province.

Measles

The Presidential Palace, or Malacañang, today urged parents to vaccinate their children against measles following predictions of a possible measles outbreak in 2021.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said not vaccinating his children could put their health at great risk.

Roque allayed fears against the government’s immunization campaign, saying that the measles vaccine is one of the “oldest” vaccines in use worldwide.

He acknowledged concerns about vaccines after problems with the Dengvaxia dengue vaccine, but noted that the case for measles vaccines is different.

Last Wednesday, the Department of Health (DOH) said it will carry out a nationwide vaccination campaign to prevent a measles outbreak expected next year.
