The latest music video for K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, “Lovesick Girls,” will be edited and replaced, their agency said Wednesday, following a controversy over scenes that nurse groups criticized for sexualizing the profession.

“We have decided to remove all scenes with the nurse uniform in BLACKPINK’s ‘Lovesick Girls’ music video and we plan to replace the video as soon as possible,” YG Entertainment said in an emailed statement.

The agency emphasized that it had “no intention” to sexualize the profession and did not expect so much controversy to break out, saying it will take the recent controversy as an opportunity to learn deeply.

The move came after local nurses objected to a 5-second scene from the music video in which member Jennie appears in a hair cap, white dress, and red heels.

The nurses criticized the attire for being unrealistic and sexualizing the nurses, claiming that such portrayal could lead to misperceptions about the profession, which they have been fighting for a long time.

“Although nurses are health workers and professionals in the medical field, they had to suffer representations that doubt their profession or sexualize them just because there are many women in the industry,” said a union representing women nurses in a statement Monday. .

“This kind of situation only gets worse if pop culture keeps repeating distorted images of nurses,” he said, asking YG to take responsibility. (Yonhap)
