Novak Djokovic defeats Karen Khachanov to reach French Open quarter-finals

The result means that in addition to his breach at the US Open earlier this month, Djokovic continues his undefeated streak in 2020 while pursuing an 18th Grand Slam title.

The victory over world No. 16 Khachanov, an opponent who defeated him in the final of the 2018 Paris Masters, gives Djokovic a meeting with either Pablo Carreño Busta or Daniel Altmaier in the final eight.

It also means that Djokovic will play his fourteenth quarter-final in Paris, a record he shares with Rafael Nadal.

Both players were favorites before the tournament and appear to be on a collision course to meet in the final after Nadal reached the quarters on Sunday. The Spaniard also hasn’t lost a set at this year’s French Open.

On Djokovic’s side of the men’s draw, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev also booked places in the quarterfinals with their respective victories over Grigor Dimitrov and Marton Fucsovics.

In the women’s draw, Petra Kvitova edged Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-4 to reach her first Roland Garros quarter-final since 2012, where she will face first-quarter finalist Laura Siegemund.
