WINS continued to be elusive for fil-Aussie fighter Josh Culibao in the UFC as he settled for a controversial split draw in his fight against Charles Jourdain on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.
Culibao received the nod from a judge, 29-28, while Jourdain scored a surprising 30-27 despite being eliminated in the first round of the undercard at UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Aldana.
The third judge scored 28-28.
Culibao, in his second UFC fight, now has a professional record of 8-1-1.
Canadian Jourdain, on the other hand, saw his win-loss card change to 10-3-1.
Undoubtedly the underdog in the match, Culibao was quick on offense early on, landing a quick takedown in the first minute before countering Jourdain’s spinning rear fist with a thunderous forehand before attempting to block a guillotine.
It was more of the same in the second round, with Culibao resisting a self-inflicted eye punch before landing another takedown late in the round.
Desperate to sway the match to his advantage, Jourdain landed power shots in the third round and attempted his own guillotine before attempting an arm bar, which Culibao escaped before the end of the match.
