MIAMI – The Miami Heat’s chances of turning the tables on the Los Angeles Lakers were hit with Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic officially listed as “doubtful” on Saturday for Sunday’s third game of the NBA Finals.
Star center Adebayo and guard Dragic missed Game 2 on Friday with injuries sustained in the Heat’s first game.
Adebayo has a neck strain and Dragic has a torn plantar fascia in his left foot.
His absence leaves a huge void for the Heat, who will try to avoid falling to a 0-3 hole in the best-of-seven championship series on Sunday.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said before the second game that both players were eager to get back into action.
“They are warriors and they keep trying to push, but they just need rest, recovery and treatment and that is the only course of action at this point,” Spoelstra said.
Star forward Jimmy Butler said after the second game that Dragic and Adebayo were pushing to play “every second before the game,” but added that teammates backed the decision to keep them out.
“Yeah, we need those guys, we want those guys with us. But it’s bigger than basketball, ”Butler said. “We want them to have a long career and whenever they come back to this series we want them to be ready.”
Miami star rookie Tyler Herro, like Butler and Spoelstra, remained confident that the Heat can respond, no matter who is on the court.
“We have two options: We can retire and we can fight, like the Miami Heat do,” Herro said. “We know what kind of team we are. We know what we are capable of, and the next game we are going to have to fight and make some plays ”.
