Chrissy Teigen shared the heartbreaking news on social media that she lost her third child that she was expecting with her husband John Legend.
Since revealing her pregnancy in August (via Legend’s “Wild” music video), Teigen has been diligently updating her millions of Twitter and Instagram followers on her journey.
In September, Teigen announced that she was on strict bed rest at home due to bleeding and complications with her placenta. And on Sunday, when the bleeding intensified, she shared that she was being hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Teigen further explained the complications of her pregnancy to her followers, and said she was receiving extra fluids and a blood transfusion. But on Wednesday night, she posted that the baby had died.
“We are in shock and in the kind of deep pain that you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite the bags and bags of blood. transfusions. It just wasn’t enough, “he wrote.
Teigen posted a photo of her crying in the hospital along with an emotional statement on Twitter and shared four additional photos of herself, John, and the baby on Instagram.
“We never decide the names of our babies until the last possible moment after they are born, just before we leave the hospital. But, for whatever reason, we had started calling this little one in my womb Jack,” Teigen wrote. “So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be part of our little family, and he will be, forever … To our Jack – I am so sorry that the first moments of your life were so complicated, that We couldn’t give you the house you needed to survive. We will always love you. “
Legend too posted on Twitter and wrote: “We love you, Jack.”
Teigen ended her post by thanking everyone who has been sending “positive energy, thoughts and prayers” throughout the course of her pregnancy.
“We are so thankful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we have been able to experience. But every day cannot be full of sun. On this darkest day, we will make him cry, we will cry But we will hug and love stronger and get through it, “he wrote.
Famous fans and friends who have been following Teigen’s pregnancy updates on social media are mourning alongside her and Legend. In the wake of this tragedy, many women, some of whom have suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth, are thanking Teigen for sharing her journey.
A miscarriage is when a baby dies in the womb before the 20th week of pregnancy. And stillbirths, which are more rare, occur when a baby dies after the 20th week of pregnancy. Approximately 24,000 babies are stillborn in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

After his initial post, Teigen also tweeted to explain the unreal feeling of leaving the hospital without a baby. Responses were filled with condolences and support, but also with messages from women who have similar pain stories and wanted to thank Teigen for putting that pain into words.

It is not uncommon for women who have experienced pregnancy loss at any gestational age to feel lonely. Many suffer in silence and feel deep sadness and shame associated with their experience, so while the news is absolutely heartbreaking, the women are grateful that Chrissy is sharing her story and raising awareness.
