MANILA, Philippines – COVID-19 cases in the Philippines soared to 311,694 after 2,426 new infections were recorded, according to the latest data provided by the Department of Health (DOH) released on Wednesday.
The data also showed that of the total number of cases, 52,702 are active cases, of which 86.4 percent are mild cases, nine percent are asymptomatic, 3.2 percent are critical cases and 1.4 percent are severe cases.
Metro Manila has the most recently announced cases with 887, followed by Cavite with 201, Rizal with 147, Negros Occidental with 115 and Batangas with 99.
There were also 585 new recoveries and 58 additional deaths, bringing the total number to 253,488 and 5,504, respectively.
The DOH also reported that 35 duplicates, of which 13 are recovered cases and two were deaths, were removed from the total case count.
In addition, there were also 14 cases previously labeled as recovered cases, but later classified as deaths after final validation.
