Having Calvin Abueva inside the PBA bubble is already a small victory for the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, interim coach Topex Robinson said Wednesday morning.

“I am very grateful that Calvin was given the opportunity to join us at Clark,” said Robinson, who joined Abueva during a meeting with officials from the Board of Games and Amusement on Tuesday.

The PBA allowed Abueva to join the Fuel Masters at Clark, Pampanga, but was only limited to participating in 5v5 games.

It remains to be seen if PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial will give him the green light to prepare in time for the season reboot on October 11.

But for now, Robinson is glad Abueva is part of the Phoenix contingent.

“While there is no guarantee yet whether or not he will be able to play, being allowed to practice will be a small win for us,” added Robinson, who also generated excitement with his Instagram post shortly after his visit to the GAB office. in the city of Makati.

Robinson whetted fans’ appetites by posting a photo of him and Abueva with the caption “Heading north.”

Team Phoenix manager Paolo Bugia later confirmed that Abueva was allowed to participate in practices.

The Fuel Masters coach said the overwhelming support, especially those who used #LetCalvinPlay on social media, should serve as a good reminder for Abueva.

“It is a reminder to Calvin that he had and will have an impact on the lives of others,” Robinson said. “You need to use your gift to serve others!”
