Abueva needs GAB signal – Mitra
The Amusement and Games Board will decide whether to return the professional license of suspended Phoenix Super LPG provider Calvin Abueva during its next board meeting.
GAB Chairman Baham Mitra said the matter would be discussed after Abueva met with Commissioner Eduard Trinidad at the government’s regulatory body for the professional sports office in Makati City.
Abueva was joined by interim Fuel Masters coach Topex Robinson, who later posted a photo on Instagram of him and Abueva suggesting the two are heading to Clark, Pampanga for the PBA bubble.
“Phoenix PBA player Calvin Abueva, accompanied by coach Topex Robinson, went to visit the GAB to ask permission to play one more time,” Mitra said in a statement. “Commissioner Eduard Trinidad did not commit anything and said that his request will be discussed and decided by the board at the next meeting.”
Mitra did not say when the board meeting will take place, but Phoenix hopes it can be approved before the PBA restarts its season with the Philippine Cup on October 11 at the Angeles University Foundation.
Even if the license is returned, Mitra said Abueva still has to undergo a seminar.
“He will undergo a seminar on ‘Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete’ once the GAB Board decides to return his license,” added Mitra.
