Over the past 24 hours since we learned for sure that the Miami Heat would be the Lakers’ opponent in the NBA Finals, there have been many different attempts to split this series and how these two teams will play each other.
What schematic and X and O advantages each team will have, and how they will attack each other has been one line of analysis, and another has been arguing about which team is deeper, or pointing out that the Miami Heat might have more of the best. 10 or more players in the series than the Lakers.
On the latest episode of “Lakers, Explained,” a Silver Screen and Roll podcast, hosts Harrison Faigen and Anthony Irwin explained why they think the latter might be a silly way of looking at things. Basketball is a team sport, yes, but it is usually also won by the team with the best players in the playoffs. The Lakers have the best two in this series (with apologies to Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler).
After that, Anthony had a question for Harrison: Why do people keep thinking that Anthony Davis hasn’t proven himself in the playoffs and continually fall into the trap of thinking that the next round will ultimately be the one to wither? They discussed some of their theories and why they think they are wrong.
Finally, Harrison and Anthony wrapped up the show by ranking the funniest possible outcomes for the Clippers’ now-vacant head coach job, and then took some time to laugh at the Boston Celtics, who were beaten back to the Finals of the League. NBA for the Lakers despite a massive lead.
