Conor McGregor’s coach has confirmed that he is close to reaching a deal with Manny Pacquiao.

McGregor tweeted on Friday that he will face the eight-division boxing world champion in the Middle East early next year.

Pacquiao later confirmed that he will donate part of his purse to the Covid-19 relief effort in the Philippines.

And now, McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, has said he hopes to start work on the Irishman’s training soon.

“I know it’s in the works. I think both fighters have fundamentally agreed, behind the scenes there are many terms and conditions and legal teams and managers to work out the details, but I think it will happen,” he said. Boxing Productions TV .

“I think it could be early next year, but the wheels are on the move and it looks like I’ll be boxing again.

“I’ll play a role, but it will be mainly Owen and Phil Sutcliffe, Conor’s longtime boxing coach from Crumlin Boxing. Most of the work will be done with those guys, but I always have a hand there.”

McGregor made his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather three years ago, but was stopped in the 10th round.

He then returned to the UFC but withdrew earlier this year after being frustrated by the lack of opponents.

And now he has turned his head by returning to the square circle.

“If you look at Conor’s accomplishments, he has won four world titles in mixed martial arts and boxed 10 rounds with some would say he is the greatest fighter of all time,” added Kavanagh.

“When you are an old man looking back, why not have another crazy experience traveling to the Middle East? This is a crazy life experience.”
