DFA: Over 10,400 Filipinos Abroad Contract COVID-19; death toll now at 791

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported five new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections to 10,438.

The DFA said that of the total cases, 2,993 are in treatment, 6,554 have recovered or been discharged, while 791 have died.

Of the Filipinos infected abroad, 7,079 are in the Middle East and Africa; 1,372 are in the Asia Pacific region; 1,170 are in Europe and 808 in America.

“DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of Filipinos abroad who are affected by the pandemic and stands firm in promoting and protecting their well-being,” said DFA.

As of September 27, there are 304,226 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, of which 46,372 are considered active cases. Recoveries are 252,510 while the death toll is 5,344.
