As classes formally open on October 5, Vice President Leni Robredo called on Saturday for the establishment of learning centers in communities so that students without Internet access are not left behind.

“The education of young people does not only depend on the school. It is the responsibility of the entire community. We are all interested, ”said Robredo in his opening message during the launch of the Movement for a Safe, Equitable, Quality and Relevant Education.

It also called for teacher training and capacity building programs and measures to help private schools meet blended learning requirements.

On Saturday, 30 organizations and 43 people launched the Movement for a Safe, Equitable, Quality and Relevant Education to urge the government to take immediate action to make it possible to open classes on October 5 in public schools.

His recommendations include subsidizing education in public schools and state colleges and universities; implement preventive health measures in schools, such as hand-washing facilities and clinics; mass medical exams and tests for education workers; ensure online safety and mental health of teachers and students.
