The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday the launch of the Rapid Damage Assessment Report (RADaR) application to ensure continuity of learning even during disasters and other calamities.

DepEd Undersecretary for Administration Alain Pascua said the mobile and web application “will support our regional, divisional, and disaster risk management and reduction coordinators in schools to quickly report and assess the impacts of disasters.”

The RADaR app, developed in partnership with Save the Children Philippines and the Prudence Foundation, will provide timely data that will be vital to ensure the strategic flow of information for response and life-saving decisions by schools, communities, local and national governments. .

The RADaR application is part of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Information System (DRRMIS) of the agency established within the DepEd through the Disaster Insurance Education Project to improve the awareness and capacity of educational staff and students regarding disaster preparedness.

It will include other apps and tools, such as the Comprehensive School Safety Monitoring App (CSS) and the School Observation App (SWApp).

Pascua noted that the application “will provide estimates of damage caused by disasters that would serve as a basis for response intervention to schools.”
