Dwight Howard has been fantastic for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Playoffs.
The Los Angeles Lakers did something in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals that they hadn’t done before: start Dwight Howard. JaVale McGee has been tasked with being the Lakers’ top starting center and Howard didn’t even play the entire previous series against the Houston Rockets.
In fact, Howard started just two games all season for the Lakers. He has started 11 games combined in the last two seasons. This is a rare occurrence.
Howard made the most of it, as he was fantastic for the Lakers in this game. After struggling on the boards the last game, Frank Vogel needed a push on the glass and that got him off Howard. Howard finished with 11 rebounds and 13 points.
More importantly, Howard led the way in offensive rebounds that led to second-chance points for the Lakers, which was ultimately a big reason the team won. Howard had six of the team’s 12 offensive rebounds in Game 4, which was more than the entire team’s four offensive rebounds in Game 3.
Howard has been vastly underrated in the NBA. Of course, it was his doing, but he’s still a productive tire protector and window cleaner at this stage in his career.
