The ASEAN Soccer Federation has confirmed that the next edition of the AFF Suzuki Cup will take place from April 11 to May 8, 2021. The biennial tournament, which features Southeast Asian national teams fighting for rights regional bragging rights, was initially planned in late 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was previously announced that the competition would be postponed to next year, with an April to May schedule now confirmed.
A statement issued by the AFF outlined the plan to hold the tournament in its full format, rather than a shortened or condensed version that other competitions have turned to.
“This latest decision has been made with the firm intention of organizing the Championship in its full format, played at home and away in the qualifying nations in Southeast Asia, as long as conditions related to Covid-19 allow,” the statement said. . .
Vietnam will head into the competition as defending champions, having defeated Malaysia 3-2 on aggregate in the 2018 final.
