MANILA, Philippines – The total coronavirus disease count in the country in 2019 is approaching the 300,000 mark as of Friday, as the Health Department recorded 2,630 more recently reported infections.
The count as of Friday is 299,361 with 61,766 active cases.
Of the active cases, 86 percent have mild symptoms, 9 percent are asymptomatic, 1.0 percent experience severe symptoms, and 2.8 percent are in critical condition.
494 new recoveries have been reported, bringing the total of recovered patients to 232,399. Meanwhile, 69 patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the death toll to 5,196.
Most of the new COVID-19 cases were registered in Metro Manila with 1,091 cases, followed by Cavite with 196 cases and Laguna with 171 cases.
The DOH said it removed 24 duplicates from the total case count, eight of these were recovered cases.
It added that 15 cases were previously labeled as recovered but were reclassified as deaths after final validation. [ac]
