Sky Fiber maintenance work to cause slow connection for subscribers

MANILA, Philippines – Telecommunications firm Sky Cable Corp. warned its home fiber Internet customers on Thursday that a slow connection is expected due to five-day maintenance activities.

“To our valued SKY Fiber subscribers, we would like to inform you that Asia-America Gateway will conduct emergency maintenance activities on its international submarine cable systems from September 25 at 8 am to September 30 at 5 am” the company said. it said in a statement.

“This will result in a slow connection affecting social media web browsers and video streaming sites such as Facebook, Google and Netflix,” he added.

Meanwhile, SKY Corp. promised it is working with “technology partners to minimize the effects of the activity on subscribers.”

The AAG is the first submarine cable system linking Southeast Asian countries with Hong Kong, then Guam, Hawaii, and finally the east coast of the United States.

The cable system provides connectivity between Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, and the west coast of the United States.

Its maximum capacity is set at 1.92 terabits per second.

Telecommunications company PLDT made a similar announcement on Wednesday, alerting customers to the effects of AAG maintenance. [ac]
