Frank Vogel’s fate in the NBA’s myopic “win now” model

There’s no denying that LeBron James is a force to be reckoned with. Since his first exodus from Cleveland, he has been trying to build the perfect beast with mixed results.

In the true David and Goliath sense, a young and unproven Denver Nuggets team built from the ground up is now facing a team of tried and true NBA champions who have come together to bring another into the fold. The giant built under the watchful eye of King James has had very few setbacks restoring the good name of the franchise with the second-most NBA Finals wins in history.

But what many might recall were the rumors that floated from the start of the season that Jason Kidd was hired as an assistant coach to appease LeBron James and head coach Frank Vogel’s time in Los Angeles could be so limited. like David Blatt’s. they were in Cleveland.

Well, things look good for the Western Conference top seed, and a healthy victory in Game 1 even had Charles Barkley predicting a sweep. (The sweep did not occur and fans might be better off looking for Gnarls Barkley predictions.)

Game 2 was a barn burn and if it weren’t for the lucky (yeah, yeah, I call it) Anthony Davis ringer beater, the series would have been tied.

Game 3 saw what NBA fans have come to expect: the Denver Nuggets adapt and conquer.

Nuggets are not flashy. They are not as physical as the Lakers. They don’t have the pedigree that the Lakers have, and they surely didn’t have free agents willing to sign for a title.

But they do one thing well. They play basketball like their life depends on it. It’s not something you see in overconfident Lakers who are stacked in all positions.

Make no mistake about the sentiment, the Lakers play hard. Rajon Rondo almost single-handedly stole Game 3 and put the Denver Nuggets on the ropes.

But it did not.

So it begs the question, or questions for that matter.

Tonight, can the Denver Nuggets continue to improve and lead Game 4 to even the series?

If so, what does that do to a Lakers team that has dominated all season without having to overthink or change the formula? That formula is, of course, to give LeBron the ball and get out of his way.

And if, in the end, the Lakers fall short, will Frank Vogel be on the unemployment line before the holidays?
