Tacloban City (CNN Philippines, September 22) – A 19-year-old man arrived in his eastern Samar hometown after riding a bicycle for 10 days from the city of Parañaque.
Peter Roncales arrived at the Taft Municipality border checkpoint Monday night, which is 1,000 kilometers from the city of Parañaque in Metro Manila.
Roncales decided to undertake the risky journey after losing his job due to the quarantine restriction brought about by the pandemic.
Since he did not have enough money to travel to Samar, Roncales decided to leave Metro Manila by bicycle.
Arriving at the provincial border in Taft, he rested for a while while he waited for staff from his hometown, Oras Municipality, to pick him up. Oras is an hour from Taft.
A local government vehicle from Oras took him from the checkpoint to a quarantine center for locally stranded people, according to the Philippine News Agency. He will stay there for 14 days before he is allowed to reunite with his family, he also said.
