MANILA – The number of COVID-19 patients who have died in the Philippines reached 4,999 after the Department of Health reported 15 additional deaths on Monday.
The country recorded 3,475 additional confirmed infections, bringing the total to 290,190.
This time, most of the newly announced cases come from outside the National Capital Region (NCR). NCR only recorded 1,543 cases on Monday.
Of the additional cases, 76% occurred in the past 2 weeks.
With an additional 400 recovered patients, there are now 54,958 active cases or those currently infected with COVID-19 in the country.
The total number of recoveries is 230,233.
After a momentary decline in the number of daily cases in early September, the Philippines is again registering more than 3,000 cases per day.
ABS-CBN head of data analysis Edson Guido said that while the numbers remain high, they have stabilized.
The Undersecretary of Health, María Rosario Vergeire, also said on Monday that the delay in laboratory shipments no longer affects the daily count since most are already complying with their requirements.
He said that from September 7 to 20, 43% of the newly announced cases were from the NCR and that they are still studying trends.
The UP OCTA Research Group previously estimated that the Philippines would have a total of 310,000 to 330,000 COVID-19 cases by the end of September.
