Mikee Romero, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives and owner of the NorthPort PBA team, said the public needs something to see and enjoy, and giving the pro league the green light to resume its games could be the best entertainment the government could provide the Philippine population in these difficult times.
With sport at a standstill and everyone still grappling with the impact of the new coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19), Romero is urging the Interagency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) to allow PBA resumes business. season in a “bubble” concept in Clark, Pampanga, similar to the successful model that the NBA has at Disney World in Florida.
“The resumption of the PBA will help Filipinos cope with depression and COVID. I’m sure it will bring relief, ”said Romero. “We can take advantage of relaxation after months of anguish.”
While fully aware that the government task force still faces a gigantic task in trying to mitigate the spread of the deadly disease, Romero, who saw action for the PH polo team at last year’s Southeast Asian Games, He relies on the leadership of the Pro League and the full support of the team owners.
“Under the leadership of President Ricky Vargas and Commissioner Willie Marcial, the PBA has exhausted everything to make the bubble concept safe for everyone,” Romero said.
Romero noted that PBA players, including his Batang Pier team, are already eager to get back into action after the league was forced to halt last March due to the health crisis.
Romero, 48, said it is time for the country’s national pastime to catch up.
“We need to get up slowly but surely,” added the former godfather of amateur basketball.
