An explosion on the side of the road occurred in a village in the town of Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao, on Friday night as a military convoy passed, leaving 1 soldier dead and 4 others injured, the army said on Saturday, qualifying the incident. as an act of terrorism.
A convoy from the 5th Military Company, Marine Infantry Battalion Landing Team 5 was crossing a road in Barangay Lipongo when an antipersonnel mine exploded.
One Marine died while 4 others were injured.
“The investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators of this inhumane act of terrorism,” said Major General Juvymax Uy, commander of the army’s Central Joint Task Force.
The identities of the victims have yet to be revealed.
“This horrendous act perpetrated by the terrorists is simply unacceptable,” said Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces.
“Please be assured that we will exhaust all available resources to bring the perpetrators to justice,” added Vinluan, Jr.
The incident occurred just weeks after two explosions in Jolo, Sulu killed 15, including state troopers. Suicide bombers linked to the Abu Sayyaf terror group have been tagged in the attacks.
