Here on my own: Mariah Carey or Irene Cara?
Mariah Carey lashed out at the music scene today, September 18, with a remake of a popular 1980 ballad “Out Here On My Own,” which she showed on Twitter.
The song was originally made by Irene Cara for the musical “Fame”.
It peaked at number 19 on the US Billboard charts. In 1981, Cara performed the song at the Oscars, where it was nominated for Best Original Song.
In her tweet, Carey called the song the soundtrack of her life.
“The fact that I believed that I could become a successful artist is one of my greatest strengths. Around the same time, my mother signed me up for a talent competition in town and I sang one of my favorite songs, ‘Out Here on My Own’ by Irene Cara. I felt like ‘Out Here on My Own’ described my whole life, and I loved singing that way – singing to reveal a part of my soul. And I won doing it. At that age. I lived for the movie Fame and Irene Cara was everything to me, ”Carey said.
“But ‘Out Here on My Own’ was such a pure song that it touched my heart, and I couldn’t believe that I had won a trophy for singing a song that I loved,” he said.
“Out Here On My Own” is one of the tracks from his latest album “Rarities” which will be released on October 2nd.
It will feature 32 tracks, some of which have never been released before, such as a single with Lauryn Hill called “Save the Day.”
