MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) identified the four airmen killed in the helicopter crash in Basilan on Wednesday afternoon.
All four were members of the 505th PAF Search and Rescue Group. The Sikorsky S-76A rescue helicopter took off from the city of Zamboanga for a medical evacuation mission in Sulu and crashed midway after encountering bad weather in Lantawan, Basilan.
Died in the crash: Major Jessie Miller, member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 2010; 1st Lt. Mack-Ar Ferrer, a member of the PMA class of 2015; Sergeant Miguel Banas; and Benedicto Leal, Airman Second Class.
The PAF said it was “very saddened” by the loss and assured the bereaved families that they would be given “the necessary assistance.”
