MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Camilo Cascolan said Wednesday that he intends to promote five police officers to the rank of lieutenant general or the rank of three stars.

“It is possible that there will immediately be five additional three-star generals because in my proposal, for the DIPOs (Directorate of Integrated Police Operations) to be there, they could already be three stars. The National Police Commission (Napolcom) may approve it on our recommendation, ”Cascolan told the ABS-CBN news channel in an interview when asked about the promotion of police generals during his two months as head of the police force of the nation.

The PNP chief said that he will first speak with the Interior Secretary, Eduardo Año, about his plan to promote the police.

Later, Cascolan mentioned that he is looking to promote Major General José Chiquito Malayo, head of DIPO-Northern Luzon; The director of DIPO Visayas, Major General Israel Dickson; and the director of the DIPO Western Mindanao, Major General Ferdinand Daway, a three-star general.

Cascolan officially took over as head of the PNP on September 2 after former PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa left office for mandatory retirement. Cascolan is expected to retire on November 10 this year.
