4 killed in helicopter crash in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur –– A Philippine Air Force (PAF) helicopter crashed in Basilan province this afternoon, killing its four passengers, authorities said.

“It’s a helicopter from the Philippine Air Force; we are still receiving more details, ”said Lieutenant Colonel Alaric Delos Santos, spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command.

Rep. De Basilan Mujiv Hataman said the incident occurred around 1 pm in Barangay Upper Manggas of Lantawan City and involved a rescue helicopter.

In a report on the ground, Colonel Domingo Gobway, commander of Joint Task Force Basilan, said the rescue plane had a tail number 202 and belonged to the 505th Search and Rescue Group of the PAF.

Gobway confirmed that the accident occurred in Barangay Upper Manggas in the city of Lantawan.

Gobway said troops from the 4th Special Forces Battalion are already at the crash site carrying out the recovery of the bodies of the four passengers.
