Cafes Serve Customers On Ground Planes Amid Pandemic

Miss traveling? I can’t help you on that. But maybe you just want to have coffee on board a plane without going anywhere?

That seems to be the idea behind Coffee War, a Thai cafe serving customers aboard a retired Airbus A330 commercial jet. In an attempt to help prospective travelers fill the void left by pandemic travel restrictions, Airplane Cafe seeks to recreate the magic of travel by removing the best part (actually going to a new place) and keeping the worst: sit on plane and consume terrible drinks.

Apparently though, we’ve now reached a coronavirus stage where this is actually an attractive option.

“Sitting here in the first-class section … it really gives me the feeling of being on an airplane, navigating through the air,” one customer told Mashable.

To be fair, the food served by Coffee War and Thai Airways Cafe, an airplane-inspired restaurant in Bangkok, appears to be well above the typical poor flight fare. But don’t worry, to ensure an authentic dining experience on a plane, Thai Airways Cafe is ditching proper plates and silverware in favor of plastic trays. This, according to Mashable, is “great if you really miss the experience of air travel.”

Again, I could be alone on this, but I’d risk sitting on a plane and dining out of plastic probably not what most people miss the most about traveling. But I guess that just goes to show how dramatically our cheer standards have dropped this year. Months after a global pandemic, people miss their previous lives so much that they are willing to pay money just to sit on a plane and eat, which is pretty bleak.

Anyway, the joys of traveling may still be largely out of your reach, but at least you can sit on a plane, have a cup of coffee, dine in a plastic container, and dream of traveling far, preferably on a line. of different time.
