MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) reported the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 on Monday at 259, bringing the total number of deaths to 4,630.
Of the additional deaths, 28 occurred in September, 110 in August, 97 in July, 22 in June, 1 in May and 1 in April, the DOH noted.
There are now a total of 265,888 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines with the addition of 4,699 more infections.
Most of the additional cases were from the National Capital Region (1,498 cases), Cavite (221), Bataan (198), Bulacan (185), and Batangas (176).
Of the additional infections, 4,090 or 87% occurred in the past two weeks. The main regions with cases in the last 14 days were NCR (1,102 or 27%) and Region 4A (830 or 20%).
DOH also announced 249 more survivors, bringing the total to 207,504.
Meanwhile, there are currently 53,754 active cases across the country.
Active cases are patients who are still infected with COVID-19 and are in hospitals or are currently isolated.
There were 27 duplicate cases that were removed from the previous count, including 16 labeled recoveries.
“In addition, there were two hundred and ninety-seven (297) cases that were previously reported as recovered, but after final validation, they were deaths (253) and active cases (44),” said DOH. [ac]
