After a difficult few months at his old club, Philippine international Neil Etheridge is expecting a fresh start at Birmingham City, which secured the services of the Azkals goalkeeper on a four-year contract last Friday.
Etheridge, 30, saw his minutes drop at Cardiff City last season, but the transfer to another team from the English Championship presents an opportunity to be part of an ambitious project, which he hopes can end with promotion to the Premier League.
“I knew there was a lot of speculation in the last 18 months about where I would move, so I’m glad we got over it,” said Etheridge, who had a possible move to West Ham from the Premier League earlier this year. ruined year. Etheridge is the seventh signing for Spanish manager Aitor Karanka, who is looking to transform the club’s fortunes after finishing 20th last season.
“When I was little, I always saw Birmingham as a great club and I am very happy to be a part of it,” Etheridge said.
