MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Bayanihan to Recover As One or Bayanihan 2 on Friday, which seeks to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was confirmed by former aide to the president and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go in a message to reporters.
It was last month when both houses of Congress ratified the bill.
Bayanihan 2 foresees a stimulus package of P140 billion in regular allocations and P25 billion as reserve funds.
Most of the budget will go to loans for sectors affected by the pandemic such as micro, small and medium enterprises, transport, tourism and agriculture.
It also allocates allowances to students at public and private elementary schools, high schools, and universities whose families were affected by the work stoppage due to the closures.
In addition, Bayanihan 2 provides for government responses related to health, such as including retroactive payment of the P100,000 risk fee payment for health workers; employment of existing emergency health workers; risk allocation of public and private health workers who care for patients with COVID-19, among others.
