MANILA, Philippines – The government has now allowed “stays” in hotels located in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ), the Department of Tourism (DOT) said on Friday.

This was approved by the Interagency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in an attempt to “explore various ways to restart tourism activities during quarantine,” DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat told the Inquirer. in a text message.

“A home stay will involve a minimum stay of one night for leisure purposes at a DOT-accredited lodging company located near the residence,” explained Puyat.

“For example, NCR residents [National Capital Region] it can remain in NCR subject to the requirements of the Local Government Unit (LGU) ”, he added.

Puyat said the DOT will soon issue a memorandum circular on residences for areas under GCQ.

The circular memorandum, said Puyat, should include “specific regulations on all aspects involved in this activity ranging from the maximum number of people allowed in a room to the use of auxiliary services such as restaurants and recreational areas.”

The IATF has also expanded the guests allowed in hotels to include “specialty program markets.”

Puyat said this focuses on “specific target markets that can safely contribute to efforts to restart economic activities through tourism.”

Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas and Tacloban City are under GCQ until September 30, while the rest of the country is under the more lenient blockade or modified GCQ.

Only Bacolod City, Lanao del Sur, and Iligan City are under a stricter lockdown or modified enhanced community quarantine.
