ATENEO has added another weapon to its arsenal with the transfer of Fil-Am Chris Koon.
The school announced the news Friday when the Blue Eagles welcomed the 19-year-old swingman.
“When I visited him a year ago, it was just the culture. Coach Tab (Baldwin) was one of the best coaches and I can feel the family atmosphere when I was there,” said 6-foot-5, two-time award-winning Koon. John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year.
Koon recorded 16.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists in high school for Rolling Hills Prep, leading the Huskies to three consecutive CIF Southern Section championships and a CIF state title in California.
He got engaged to Cal Poly Pomona, but skipped competitions in his rookie season.
Koon already enrolled in the Ateneo last Tuesday, with him set for a year in a red jersey before being cleared to play in UAAP season 84. You can play the full five years in Katipunan.
Her mother, Iderlina Acosta, hails from Novaliches, Quezon City, and acquired her Philippine passport months after her 16th birthday.
Baldwin, for his part, is delighted with the recent transfer.
“Chris can play in multiple positions, a variety of skills. But one of his greatest attributes is his basketball IQ. He is a very smart player, very tough, and his transition to our program will be quite smooth,” said the decorated mentor .

Koon, on the other hand, sees this move as an opportunity for him to take another step toward achieving his dreams of playing in the PBA.
“My ultimate goal is to play abroad, in the PBA. I felt like the right place and time to make a change to the Ateneo,” he said. “It’s been on my mind for a while. Since the spring semester at Pomona and with everything that’s going on, it made me think of the opportunity there.”
