WHEN Maharlika Football Club plays its first season in the Philippine Soccer League, expect it to look to make things happen both on and off the field, anchored in its vision of putting love of the sport to the fore.

Maharlika FC was recently given the go-ahead to be the newest entrant in the PFL, saying they welcome the opportunity not only to leverage their products in the league, but also to possibly change the mindset as to how they are carried out. the football affairs of the teams in the country.

“The mentality of the team is to play for the love of the sport. We are all friends. We play against each other. We know the state of football here and we share practically the same vision. We all know that soccer can be a great sport here, ”Maharlika FC founder Anton Del Rosario said in an online press featuring the team on Wednesday.

Mr. Del Rosario, a former member of the Azkals of the Philippines, shared that they have come up with a tactic in line with their momentum as a team, which includes engaging fans more and having players who really want to play.

In fact, in his first season in the PFL, Maharlika FC will pay its players just one peso each.

Mr. Del Rosario said that this approach is geared towards focusing more on sustainability and not so much money, which the founder of Maharlika FC believes has not been the case, generally, recently, hampering the growth of the sport.

“When it comes down to it, the soccer league here in the country has had a roller coaster tenure. We started strong, especially after the Azkals, then we saw a big drop in the sport. With popularity and things like that. So I think to make teams sustainable again, and we don’t have teams that promise all these salaries and can’t pay, we need to break them down and find out why people want to play. And we want to get the money out of him and start building communities within the teams, ”said Mr. Del Rosario.

“We have to build our own communities to be able to support our teams. And that hasn’t happened with many of the teams. It seems like they forgot about their hobby and hobby and focused on the competition of having the best team and having the best players and offering the most money. And I think it took away the love of the game, “he added.

Currently, like the other teams in the PFL, Maharlika FC has started its preparation for the new league season, which is set to start next month, just as it is in the process of completing its roster.

The team, led by Roxy Dorias, is emerging as a squad made up of former Azkals, professional footballers and some youth.

Players already on board include Misagh Bahadoran, Cedric Hodreal, Joaco Canas, Jerry Barbaso, Daniel Matsunaga and David Basa.

In addition to Maharlika FC, which will also compete in the fourth season of the PFL, now presented by Qatar Airways, are Kaya FC-Iloilo, Mendiola FC 1991, Stallion Laguna FC, United City Football Club and Azkals Development Team.

The new PFL season was supposed to start in March until the coronavirus pandemic forced a delay.
