MANILA – The death toll from coronavirus in the Philippines surpassed 4,000 on Thursday, as the number of cases of the disease in the country rose from 3,821 to 248,947, the health department said.
Of the additional cases, which are based on the results of 105 of the 117 accredited testing laboratories, more than half or 2,079 are from the National Capital Region, the epicenter of the outbreak in the country.
This is the third day in a row that additional cases have exceeded 3,000. This as DOH warned that additional cases would be erratically high this week as labs try to catch up on their delayed reports.
With 563 additional recovered patients and 80 new COVID-related deaths, there are currently 58,823 active cases in the country.
The total number of recoveries is 186,058, while the total number of deaths increased to 4,066.

Experts from the OCTA Research Group at the University of the Philippines estimate that the total number of cases would reach 310,000 to 330,000 by the end of September.
