Local automakers and dealers are increasingly introducing hybrid vehicles.

Among the car brands that already distribute or have distributed hybrids locally are Toyota, Hyundai, Lexus, BMW, Land Rover.

One of the last to introduce a hybrid vehicle to the local market is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, bringing the Outlander PHEV, a compact five-passenger crossover with 4 × 4 capability that uses electric motors and a gasoline engine.

Initially only one dealer, Mitsubishi Manila Bay of Peak Motors Philippines Inc., is distributing the Outlander PHEV, touted as the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

But Mitsubishi says other dealers: Fast Autoworld Philippines Corporation, SFM Sales Corporation, Motor Plaza Incorporated, Mindanao Integrated Commercial Enterprises Incorporated – will carry the Outlander PHEV early next year.

Is the local market ready for PHEVs and other hybrid and electrified vehicles? Or are they being incorporated as aspirational models to show the latest technological advances of a brand?

According to Mitsubishi, the Outlander PHEV’s powertrain has the benefits of a purely electric vehicle and a hybrid engine.

It is equipped with a two-motor 4WD system that delivers power independently to the front and rear wheels.

On full charge, the Outlander PHEV has a maximum range of 55 kilometers using only battery power. For longer trips, the 128 horsepower gasoline engine with 199 Newton meters of torque is activated.

The Outlander PHEV features Mitsubishi Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC), Active Yaw Control (AYC), Active Stability Control (ASC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Lane Departure Assist, automatic high beams, automatic high beams and acceleration mitigation system are also added for safety. Incorrect Ultrasonic (UMS).

It also comes with an 8-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio (SDA) system that is compatible with Android Audio.

New Isuzu milestone

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has reached another milestone worthy of congratulations.

Since starting operations 23 years ago, Isuzu said it has sold 241,389 light commercial vehicles and 58,744 commercial vehicles.

The subway is still on

More busway stations
