The Higher Education Commission (CHED) will issue demonstration of cause orders to the University of Santo Tomás and the National University regarding their actions to conduct training during quarantine.

CHED President Popoy De Vera said Monday that the program’s cause orders require the two schools to explain why no sanctions should be imposed on their officers, teaching and non-teaching staff for failing to comply with CHED guidelines. .

This development came after CHED completed its investigative report on the alleged Interagency Task Force violations and the UST and UN warnings from CHED.

Reports have already been submitted to the Department of Justice, which has jurisdiction over IATF rules, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), which will determine whether local ordinances were violated.

Studying the UST internal probe, De Vera revealed that “it is clear that training actually took place at Sorsogon that involved UST basketball players.”

“The basketball players who participated, their names were included in the UST report. So I don’t think there is a doubt that this supposed bubble really happened, ”De Vera said.

In the NU case, De Vera said the team admitted to training at a facility outside Metro Manila and were unable to return home after the lockdown was imposed. The players reportedly stayed in the bedroom.

“I don’t think there is denial in those things. Those are some of the facts that we include in our report, ”De Vera said.

De Vera also said that determining possible sanctions would be “too premature at this point” until they receive responses to orders to show cause.
