During a typical summer split, League of Legends North American teams typically play 18 games during the regular season. But TSM has already played a whopping 20 games in the Summer Split playoffs.

From their 0-3 series loss at the hands of the Golden Guardians to their triumphant win over Team Liquid yesterday, TSM has already played a full season of matches in the span of a month. This doesn’t even take into account the upcoming 2020 summer finals, which will go to three guaranteed games.

As a result, TSM has gotten much more practice “on stage” than FlyQuest, who they will face today in the final. FlyQuest has only played 14 games in their career as they were able to stay in the top bracket. Still, by the end of their series with TSM, they will have played a minimum of 17 games in the playoffs.

This number of games is comparable to the number played in the LPL, which currently runs a best-of-three system for the regular season. Each team can play 35 to 40 games before moving on to the playoffs, giving them plenty of time to hone their skills at both the micro and macro levels.

The only problem, though, is that a best-of-three system was never popular with fans in North America and Europe. The audience was quite low when this system was implemented, and because of this, Riot Games changed both regions back to the best-of-one environment.

We’ll see if the six extra games TSM played will make a difference when the two finalists meet in the 2020 LCS Summer Finals. You can watch the epic finale to the season when the Finals begin today at 3pm CT.
