ILIGAN CITY – Just two days after the death of her younger brother inside the Ozamiz city police holding cell, Melodina Parojinog Malingin, another member of the Parojinog family who has been in jail since 2017 for illegal drugs , died at MHARS Medical Center. at 7:45 am on Sunday, September 6.
Jail Officer (JO) 1 Christian Méndez, the jail nurse, said Malingin was taken to the hospital at 6 p.m. Saturday after she pooped black.
“When we checked her vital signs, we discovered that her BP (blood pressure) was very low, which led us to take her to the hospital for further medical evaluation,” Méndez said. “This morning our assigned jail guard at the hospital informed us that he died at 7:45 am while in the ICU (intensive care unit),” Mendez said.
Doctors from the MHARS Medical Center in the city of Ozamiz cited the cause of death as “cardiogenic shock secondary to intractable cardiac arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation to ventricular tachycardia.”
Mendez said Malingin had been bedridden for weeks and could no longer speak properly before she was taken to the hospital.
On June 17, she underwent a curettage and dilation procedure on her uterus due to abnormal uterine bleeding. She was released eight days later and returned to jail. Since then, her health has been deteriorating, the prison nurse said.
Malingin was jailed on dangerous drug charges after police seized eight kilograms of shabu (crystal methamphetamine) from her home during a raid in December 2017.
On Friday, September 4, Malingin’s younger brother, Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog, was found dead inside his holding cell at the Ozamiz city police station after he was airlifted into the city on Thursday to attend the next day arraignment of your case for illegal possession of firearms. and explosives that were found during a 2017 raid on his home in Barangay Bagakay.
Police said they did not respond to his wake-up call the next day.
Later, they reported that Parojinog had succumbed to cardiopulmonary arrest.
Malingin and Ardot were brothers of the former mayor of the city of Ozamiz Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog, who was killed with 15 other people in a police raid on the family’s properties in July 2017. The raid led to the arrest of the children of Aldong, former Deputy Mayor Nova Parojinog and Reynaldo Parojinog, Jr.
Ardot was not home at the time of the raid.
In 2017, President Duterte offered a P5 million award for the capture of Ardot, whom the President had labeled as having alleged links to illegal drug trafficking. Ardot was arrested in Taiwan in May 2018 and deported in July of that year.
Since his arrest in 2018, Ardot had been detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) custody center before being flown to Ozamiz City to attend his case hearing.
