Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 6) – The García de Cebú political clan has lost a second member in a span of a week, following the death of Barili city mayor Marlon García on Sunday.

The mayor’s death comes a few days after the alleged disappearance of his brother, the former mayor of the city of Dumanjug, Nelson García.

“Losing a brother is quite painful, but losing another brother in the same week, my heart cannot move on,” former president of the Government Service Insurance System, Winston Garcia, wrote on his social media page.

“The true fighter that he was, my brother, Marlon has been fighting for his life for the past few weeks… This morning, he joins my brother Nelson and my mother in heaven,” he added.

Mayor Garcia was also the brother of Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, who announced in August that the city executive contracted COVID-19.

The family, however, did not specify the cause of the death of the brothers.

García previously served Barili as its deputy mayor from 2010 to 2013, before being elected mayor of the city in 2016.

Meanwhile, the Office of Presidential Communications Operation extended its condolences to the García family for the death of the brothers.

“Over the years as former executive directors of their respective local government units, they were fundamental to the development of the municipalities of Dumanjog and Barili and that of their citizens,” PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement. .
