EJ Obiena was scheduled to make his last attempt at 5.40m when the organizers of the 2020 Golden Roof Challenge canceled the event due to inclement weather on Sunday morning (Philippine time) in Innsbruck, Austria.

After his run at the Januzk Kusocinski Memorial two weeks ago, where he finished in fifth place, he went begging, his elite athletics camp head coach, Vitaliy Petrov, accompanied him this time in the old Olympic city.

However, heavy rains hampered performances by Obiena and the rest of the field, which included Kusocinski bronze medalist Menno Vloon from the Netherlands and Greece ace Kostantinos Filippidis.

Obiena barely exceeded 5.10 meters, finally succeeding on her third and last attempt.

The pole vaulter destined for the Tokyo Olympics then clocked 5.30 after just one attempt, putting him in a more comfortable position.

Vloon and American Matt Ludwig took the lead at 5.40, pushing the reigning Asian champion to join them at the top.

Obiena failed her first two attempts before organizers decided not to finish the event.

The 24-year-old will compete in the 59th Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic on September 8.
