MANILA, Philippines – The jury is out as the group of the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) and the Higher Education Commission have concluded their investigation into the alleged violation of the Santo Tomas University quarantine protocol during the pandemic.

Comprised of the Philippine Sports Commission, the Board of Games and Amusement, and the Department of Health, the tripartite JAO committee together with CHED will present their report on Monday morning after more than two weeks of investigation.

The IATF and the Department of Justice will be the recipients of the group’s findings and will have the final say on the possible sanctions that will be imposed on the UST after conducting an alleged illegal training bubble at Sorsogon.

A press conference right after the presentation of the group’s report is scheduled at 1 p.m.

Investigations into UST began last month following the discovery of the Growling Tigers bubble in Capuy, Sorsogon allegedly brought up by coach Aldin Ayo amid restrictions on travel and sports training activities for non-professional teams.
The controversy unleashed a free fall of multiple personalities from the Spanish lair with the departure of CJ Cansino, Brent Paraíso, Rhenz Abando, Ira Bataller and Jun Asunción.

The sports director of the UST, Fr. Jannel Abogado and Ayo himself with his assistant coaches have also resigned from their positions.

In addition to the IATF, sanctions on UST and Ayo from the Philippine University Athletic Association (UAAP) are also pending with the Board of Trustees (BOT) set up to ‘review and approve’ recommendations made by the Board of Managing Directors (BMD ) last week.

Meanwhile, the JAO group along with CHED will also sit down today with the professional leagues PBA, PFL and Chooks 3×3 to share their best practices in creating guidelines and protocols for varsity team training.
