MANILA – The mayor of Barili city in Cebu has died, his brother confirmed on Sunday.
Marlon Garcia died after weeks of “fighting for his life,” his brother, the former head of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Winston Garcia, said in a Facebook post. The two are siblings of Cebu’s incumbent governor, Gwendolyn García.
“Losing a brother is painful enough, but losing another brother in the same week, my heart can’t move on. The true fighter that he was, my brother, Marlon has been fighting for his life for the past few weeks.” He said Winston.
Former mayor of Dumanjug, Cebu, Nelson Garcia, passed away last week, Winston said Wednesday.
“My brother was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend who served his people with pride as the mayor of Barili. I love you so much and will miss you so much, Marlon,” said Winston.
Patriarch Garcia, Pablo, served as a former governor and congressman of Cebu.
