Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 5) – The Joint Task Force COVID Shield, in coordination with the Philippine National Police, has directed all police commanders to monitor social media for possible quarantine violations, such as mass gatherings for parties and drinking sessions.

According to JTF COVID Shield Commander PLt. General Guillermo Eleazar, social networks are full of photos of evidence of “stubborn” people, who according to him, “deliberately violate quarantine protocols.”

“These can be used as evidence to warn, fine and summon the persons involved in coordination with the barangay officials involved,” he said in a statement Saturday.

He said those who will be caught participating in drinking sessions may face additional charges if there is a liquor ban in their area.

Eleazar also urges netizens to help the PNP prosecute violations, even if the offenders are police officers.

“I will make sure that everyone who enforces or implements the law is disciplined and must also follow the law that they are implementing,” said PNP chief General Camilo Cascolan.

According to JTF COVID Shield data, more than 365,000 people have been warned, fined and charged for violating quarantine rules since March 17.
