A mix of old and new names filled the list of winners for the second round of Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) national emotorsports program, the GR Supra GT Cup Asia Philippines.

Hundreds of players participated from their own homes, virtually racing Toyota’s flagship sports car, the GR Supra, on the tracks of the Autopolis International Racing Course. After the qualifying rounds and the final phase, TMP has declared the official winners of this round.

At the head of the Sports Class is Luis Moreno, who also won in the first round. With him on the podium are the second place Miguel San Mateo and third place Terence Lallave, both first classified in the top three.

In the promo class, new Top 3 ranked JB Cruz won first place, beating second winner Lance Guballa and third winner Lance Padilla. Guballa and Padilla took third and second place respectively during the first round.

Round 2 points have a multiplier of 1.5. The third and final round with duplicate points will take place this month and will air on September 26. Registration for the third round is now open at www.toyota.com.ph/gtcup.

The points accumulated after the third round will determine the two overall champions, one from each class, who will then represent the Philippines at the GR Supra GT Cup Asian Regional Championship in October. A third champion who will also be heading to the regional championship will come from the Celebrity vs. Medium, also in September.

“I am ecstatic about the victory, considering the nature of the track. I’m very happy to get another victory on a track that I consider the toughest on the calendar, ”said Moreno, Sporting Class champion.

“Unlike Suzuka, the nature of this track doesn’t have as much room to breathe, as it goes around corner after corner. I also had to deal with how to overtake on this track considering that I started at P9 and clean passes on this track are very difficult, ”explained Moreno.

Meanwhile, Promotional Class Champion Cruz expressed his appreciation for the emotorsports program as it allows more racing fans to pursue their passions.

“A child who plays toy cars in a way that is mindful of body roll, suspension and traction. etc. A child waiting for cars to pass and memorizing the makes and models, that was me. Before we could not afford to buy a car, but video games allowed me to dream of getting beautiful cars and being a racing driver. This is my first time participating in a legitimate esports racing competition, and especially coming from Toyota and winning? A satisfying experience, that’s what it is, ”Cruz said.

The GR Supra GT Cup Asia Philippines expands TMP’s motorsports activities led by the Vios Racing Festival (VRF). This year’s VRF season was postponed due to the pandemic, but this hasn’t stopped TMP from promoting waku-doki or the thrill of racing.
